JennAir refrigerators,
specifically.

JennAir refrigeration is built for the cabinetry: columns, built-in side-by-side and bottom-mount units, and undercounter drawers and wine storage, most of them panel-ready. The doors hang on articulating hinges with a very small reveal, so door alignment and panel weight shape a large share of the work.

The JennAir lineup

What is particular
to JennAir.

The range covers panel-ready column refrigerators and freezers, built-in side-by-side and bottom-mount units, undercounter refrigerator drawers and beverage centers, and wine columns. Columns and built-ins are serviced in place, and the family decides where the condenser and the power switch are.

Articulating hinges, an eighth-inch reveal

JennAir built-ins, columns and undercounter units are designed to sit in cabinetry with a slim eighth-inch reveal, on hinges that swing the door out of the cabinet plane. With so little clearance, a door that has dropped slightly rubs or stops short of sealing, and the complaint arrives as frost or a warm compartment.

The condenser moves with the product family

On a JennAir column the condenser is cleaned from behind the base grille. On the built-in side-by-side it sits behind the top grille ventilation panel, and JennAir says it may need cleaning as often as every other month. Knowing which family is in the kitchen tells us where to look first.

Off at the panel is not off at the switch

On the built-in side-by-side, the Cooling ON/OFF pad shuts down cooling, lights, fans and compressor, while the real power switch is behind the top grille. A dark, silent unit has often been turned off at the panel, not lost its power.

Connected columns report first

Connected JennAir columns send door-open and power-outage notifications to the owner's phone. Those alerts, and the time they arrived, are useful evidence when a column is found warm.

Parts

Mechanical parts for current JennAir built-ins and columns are generally available. Custom door panels, trim and hinge hardware are the long-lead items, and panels belong to the cabinetmaker rather than to the appliance.

Repair or replace

Rarely a close call. A JennAir column or built-in is specified with the kitchen and sized to its opening, so repair is almost always the better answer, including sealed-system work.

Questions about
JennAir refrigerators.

My JennAir built-in went dark after I pressed a button on the panel. Did it fail?
Probably not. On the built-in side-by-side, the Cooling ON/OFF pad shuts down cooling, lighting, fans and the compressor. Press it again first. The full power switch is separate and sits behind the top grille.
Where is the condenser on a JennAir refrigerator?
It depends on the family. A column is cleaned from behind its base grille, twice a year if the house is dusty or has pets. On the built-in side-by-side it is behind the top grille ventilation panel and may need cleaning as often as every other month.
Why does my JennAir door only open part of the way?
The built-in side-by-side has a door stop that limits opening to 90° or 110°. If the door stops at one of those angles, it is a setting, not a broken hinge. A door that drags, drops or will not close fully is a different matter and worth a visit.
How many temperature zones does a JennAir wine column have?
Two independent zones, each adjustable from 39 to 64°F. If one zone drifts while the other holds, the problem is confined to that zone.
