All refrigerator typesWhat is particular

Indoor: 36-inch bottom-mount refrigerators (top- or bottom-compressor versions), 24- and 30-inch refrigerator and freezer columns, 24-inch wine columns and refrigerator-with-wine units. Outdoor: 24-inch undercounter refrigerators, refrigerator drawers, refrigerator/freezer drawers, dual-zone wine units and beer dispensers.
Indoor and outdoor are separate product lines
Hestan's indoor manual says plainly not to install those units outdoors, while the outdoor line is built for it. The first question on any Hestan call is which line the unit belongs to.
A foam filter in front of the condenser
Indoor Hestan units breathe through a ventilation grill at the top or the bottom depending on the model, with a foam filter behind it. A matted filter chokes airflow just like a dirty coil, so both get cleaned on a running-constantly call.
Outdoor units need seasonal care
The outdoor line is meant to be winterized when daily lows reach 38°F for refrigerators, and to have its condenser cleaned every three months because leaves and dirt collect behind the front grille. An outdoor unit that skipped either is the usual source of a spring call.
Dual refrigeration and a convertible drawer
The indoor bottom-mount models list a dual refrigeration system and a freezer compartment that converts to a refrigerator or FreshZone drawer. A drawer that is 'not freezing' may simply be set to another mode.
Parts
Hestan's two lines use different parts, and the indoor models are built in Italy, so parts are ordered by exact model number. Some parts for the indoor units may take longer to arrive than for volume brands.
Repair or replace
Indoor built-in columns and bottom-mount units are fitted into cabinetry and are worth repairing. An outdoor unit that has corroded or been left running through a freeze is a closer call, and the condition of the cabinet decides it.
