Viking refrigerators,
specifically.

Viking refrigeration spans professional-style 42- and 48-inch built-in side-by-sides, panel-ready integrated columns and bottom-freezers, a freestanding 3 Series French-door model, and undercounter and outdoor units. The current integrated line is serviced from below: its condenser sits behind a removable grille under the door, and its sealed system uses a flammable refrigerant, which changes what a sealed-system visit requires.

The Viking lineup

What is particular
to Viking.

Built-in side-by-sides, 7 Series integrated columns and bottom-freezers, the freestanding 3 Series French-door, and undercounter and outdoor units are separate families. The integrated columns and the professional side-by-sides are reached and adjusted differently, so the model is confirmed before the visit.

The condenser is at the bottom, with its own reminder

On Viking integrated models the condenser sits behind the lower front ventilation grille under the door. The display asks for it every six months with a CHECK COND. message, and the manual has the unit switched off for about 30 minutes before cleaning so the condenser can cool.

Flammable refrigerant in the sealed system

The product plate on the integrated models lists R600a, and Viking requires any repair equipment used on the sealed system to be designed for flammable refrigerants. Sealed-system work is planned with that equipment from the start.

An articulating hinge carries the panel

Integrated columns hang on a fully articulating hinge that adjusts in three directions for cabinet alignment, with a soft-closing damper. A door that sits proud, rubs a neighboring panel or closes hard is usually adjusted at the hinge, and a 90-degree door stop is offered for tight openings.

Codes sit behind the ALARM button

Viking's integrated display holds error messages that appear when you touch ALARM, including a Power Failure notice that shows the highest temperature reached. A showroom Demo mode can also leave lights and a temperature display working with no cooling at all.

Parts

Integrated column door panels come in many field-reversible colors and finishes, so a replacement panel is ordered by exact finish and width. The Plasmacluster air purifier on integrated models needs no filter replacements, so there is no air filter to stock for it.

Repair or replace

Integrated and built-in Viking units are fitted into cabinetry and paneled, so repair is normally the answer, including sealed-system work done with the right equipment. A freestanding unit with a failed sealed system is the only real replace conversation.

Questions about
Viking refrigerators.

My Viking display says CHECK COND. What does it want?
It is the six-month reminder to clean the condenser, which sits behind the removable grille under the door. The manual has you switch the unit off, wait about 30 minutes, clean with a soft brush and vacuum, then reset the message. If it runs warm after a clean condenser, book a visit.
The lights and display on my Viking work, but it is not cold.
If the unit was a showroom model, it may still be in Demo mode, where lights work and temperatures are displayed but no cooling happens. Touch ALARM to see whether an error message is stored as well. If neither explains it, it needs a diagnostic visit.
Does the Plasmacluster air purifier in my Viking need a new filter?
No. Viking describes the Plasmacluster ion air purifier on its integrated refrigerators as needing no filter replacements. The water filter for the dispenser or ice maker is separate and does need changing.
My Viking's ice maker seems slow. Is that normal?
Viking gives the average as about 10 cubes every two hours, around 10 cycles in 24 hours. If production is well below that, check that the ice maker is on and the water filter is not overdue, then book a visit.
