What is particular
to Dacor.

Dacor's built-in refrigeration includes column refrigerators and column freezers in several widths, often installed as pairs, plus built-in French door models. Column units are serviced inside their cabinetry, so the installation matters as much as the model.

Doors that open themselves

Dacor columns can have an Auto Door Open system: push the handle and a mechanism opens the door, holds it for two seconds and closes it again. It does not respond for two seconds after the door closes, and closing the door early during the cycle can damage the mechanism, so many door complaints begin with the system's timing and settings.

Paired columns affect each other

Closing one column hard can trigger the door sensor of the unit next to it and open that door, which Dacor treats as normal. Dacor also says it happens when the units are not fixed tight to the cabinet, and settings such as Sabbath mode must be set on each unit separately.

A sensor-controlled FreshZone drawer

The FreshZone is a full-width drawer with its own temperature sensor that adjusts how much cold air enters, set to Cheese, Cold Drinks or Chill/Meat. A drawer running too warm or too cold is a separate check from the main compartment.

Two filters on different clocks

The water filter is due after about six months or 300 gallons and the deodorizer filter after about 18 months, each with its own indicator. Only Samsung-provided or approved water filters should be fitted; Dacor warns that unapproved filters may leak.

Parts

Many parts are shared with the wider Samsung group, but column-specific parts such as the Auto Door Open mechanism, trim and panels can take longer to source than common cooling parts.

Repair or replace

Rarely a close call. A column fitted into cabinetry, often as a matched pair, is expensive to replace in kind, so most repairs short of a failed sealed system on an old unit are worth making.

My Dacor column door does not open when I push the handle. Is it broken?
Check the Auto Door Open switch first; the system may be switched off. It also ignores a push for two seconds after the door closes, and touching or tapping the handle does not trigger it. Wait, then push the handle firmly. If it still does not open, book a visit.
Closing one Dacor column opened the one next to it. What is going on?
Dacor describes this as normal for paired columns: a hard close can trigger the neighboring unit's door sensor, and its Auto Close brings the door back. If it happens often, the units may not be fixed tightly to the cabinet, which is worth checking during a visit.
Is a Dacor serviced like a Samsung?
Partly. Dacor's column manual uses Samsung filters and the SmartThings app, so electronics and connectivity follow the Samsung group. The installation is different: a built-in column is serviced inside its cabinetry, often beside a paired unit.
