Bosch refrigerators,
specifically.

Bosch sells mostly counter-depth French-door refrigerators, from the 500 to the 800 Series, with a Benchmark built-in line above them. The series matters on a service call more than it does on the showroom floor, because the cooling system inside is not the same from one series to the next.

The Bosch lineup

What is particular
to Bosch.

Freestanding counter-depth French-door models in the 500 and 800 Series cover most kitchens; the Benchmark built-ins are a separate, cabinet-installed family with dual evaporators and a flush-mount hinge. Knowing which family you have tells the technician which cooling layout to expect.

The series decides the cooling system

The 800 Series counter-depth model has two compressors and two evaporators, while the 500 Series counter-depth model has a single evaporator. The same complaint, a warm refrigerator over a cold freezer, points somewhere different on each, so the model number comes first.

Normal noises are documented

The manual lists droning, gurgling, clicking, cracking during defrost, and ice falling into the bin as normal. A noise outside that list, or one that started suddenly, is worth a visit; a noise on the list usually is not.

Three filters, not one

Depending on model, a Bosch can carry an UltraClarityPro water filter, an AirFresh air filter and a FreshProtect ethylene filter. An overdue water filter is a common reason for slow ice or a weak dispenser.

Door clearance in tight kitchens

If the kitchen limits the door to less than 118 degrees of swing, Bosch sells a 90-degree door stopper. Drawers that bind against an open door are often a clearance question rather than a broken rail.

Parts

Filters and door accessories are stocked consumables. Sealed-system and control parts are ordered by the model number and production code on the rating label, so a photo of that label before the visit saves a trip.

Repair or replace

On a freestanding 500 Series the age of the unit and the part involved decide it; a sealed-system repair on an older unit can be a close call. On the 800 Series and on a Benchmark built-in, most repairs are still the better choice.

Questions about
Bosch refrigerators.

My Bosch makes a gurgling or clicking sound. Should I worry?
Usually not. Bosch lists gurgling (refrigerant moving), clicking (valves and switches) and cracking (automatic defrost) as normal noises. If the unit is not level or is touching the cabinets, those normal sounds carry, so check that before booking a visit.
Does it matter which Bosch series I have?
Yes. The 800 Series counter-depth model has two compressors and two evaporators; the 500 Series counter-depth model has one evaporator. A warm refrigerator over a cold freezer points to different parts on each, so the technician will want the model number first.
My ice has slowed down. Is the ice maker broken?
Check the UltraClarityPro water filter first. An old or badly seated filter restricts flow to the ice maker and dispenser, and changing it is a quick test before anything is replaced.
I have two Bosch built-in units side by side and see moisture between them. Why?
Bosch requires a heater kit when two built-in appliances stand side by side, and recommends it in humid rooms and next to outside walls. Without it, condensation can form in the gap between the two cabinets.
