What C
actually means.
On a 106 model a C is a thermistor failure, and where it appears matters: on the refrigerator display it is the fresh food sensor, on the freezer display the freezer sensor. Sears has a loose or damaged harness dealt with first and the sensor replaced only if the wiring is sound.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from Kenmore's own guidance for C on its refrigerators. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Read the model plate and confirm the 106 prefix; this letter code is taken from the Sears chart for that family.
Note which display the C is on, refrigerator or freezer, and whether it is on both.
Check both compartments with a thermometer so you know how they are really doing.
Book a visit and pass on which display showed the C.
What not to do
C is not a request to clean the condenser. On this chart it stands for a failed compartment sensor.
