Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Sub-Zero's own guidance for Service on its refrigerators. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Flashing and the temperatures are high: book a visit.

02

Flashing and the temperatures are near normal: switch the unit off, clean the condenser, check that the doors close, switch the breaker off for 30 seconds and back on. Book a visit if it returns.

03

Steady: there is nothing to do at home — book a visit.

Still there?

It usually turns into diagnostic visit. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

Do not treat flashing and steady as the same message. One is about how hard the unit is working; the other is a stored error.

What you may
notice with it.

The refrigerator problems Service tends to arrive with. Answer these at the refrigerator before anyone is booked.

Where Service usually leads

Diagnostic visit.

In Sub-Zero's own words

The word "Service" flashes between zone temperatures. 600 and 700 Series control panel shown.
Sub-Zero assistance: Service flashing Sub-Zero assistance: Service indicator steady

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. Sub-Zero shows this on 600 and 700 Series panels. The Classic series uses a wrench icon instead.

Questions
about Service.

Can I clear Service myself?
Flashing and the temperatures are high: book a visit. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Is a flashing Sub-Zero Service light as serious as a steady one?
They are two separate messages, so judge each on its own terms. A flash is about the compressor running far longer than it should, and it matters most when the zone temperatures are also up. A steady light only says a code is sitting in memory, and reading it takes a technician.
Why did the Sub-Zero Service light come back after I cleaned the condenser and reset the breaker?
If the flashing returns after those owner steps, the extra run time has a cause that cleaning did not reach. At that point the home checks are used up and the unit needs a visit. On a Classic series unit the same warning shows as a wrench icon rather than the word.

Still showing Service?

Book with the exact characters, the full model number, and whether it is still cooling — on a code, that is the whole starting point.
