The control panel on the door of a refrigerator seen close, its display softly lit with no readable characters, the stainless door falling out of focus around it.

Whirlpool refrigerator
showing Demo

The refrigerator is in demo, or showroom, mode: the display and lights work normally but the compressor and fans stay off or barely run, so nothing gets cold.

Book a visit

Three short steps, about a minute.

or call (844) 681-4650

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Whirlpool's own guidance for Demo on its refrigerators. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Confirm the symptom matches: lights and display normal, no cold air, little or no compressor sound after several hours.

02

Look up your model number and follow the owner's manual steps for leaving demo mode; the button combination differs between models.

03

On many bottom-freezer models the combination is holding two buttons together for three seconds, such as LIGHT and FAST COOL.

04

Once it is off, give the cabinet several hours to reach temperature.

Cleared?

Nothing needed repairing. If the refrigerator does not settle back to temperature, that is a separate problem.

What not to do

It is not a cooling failure and no part is needed. A newly delivered unit left in this mode is the usual story.

What you may
notice with it.

The refrigerator problems Demo tends to arrive with. Answer these at the refrigerator before anyone is booked.

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

A setting somebody chose, or an alert it raised on purpose — a showroom mode, a door or power alarm. Nothing has broken and no part is needed.

Questions
about Demo.

Can I clear Demo myself?
Confirm the symptom matches: lights and display normal, no cold air, little or no compressor sound after several hours.
How can I tell if my Whirlpool is in demo mode?
The lights and display work, but no cold air and little compressor sound after several hours. A Demo, Showroom or Shwrm label appears on only part of the range.
How do I exit demo mode on a Whirlpool?
Follow the owner's manual for your model number. On many bottom-freezer models, holding LIGHT and FAST COOL for three seconds does it.

Still showing Demo?

Book with the exact characters, the full model number, and whether it is still cooling — on a code, that is the whole starting point.
