Is that related? Almost certainly. The evaporator fan is one of the few things you hear from inside the cabinet, and a refrigerator that has gone quiet is usually one that has stopped moving air. ### Is a noisy fan urgent? Not usually, but a blade catching frost is telling you about the defrost system as well, and that one does end as a cooling failure. ### How long does a fan replacement take? Among the shorter repairs here, and usually completed within the visit when the motor is available. The evaporator fan sits behind the back cover of the freezer compartment, so shelves and that cover come out first. The condenser fan is reached from behind, or from above the doors on a built-in. ### Do I have to empty the freezer for a fan repair? Only the shelves in front of the back cover, since it has to come off. Pack the rest together in a cooler or a closed drawer and it will hold while the motor is swapped.
