The first glass after a long pause often is, because water resting in the door line warms up. If it stays warm after several glasses on a model that stores water in a tank inside the fresh-food compartment, the compartment itself may be running warm, which is a cooling question rather than a dispenser one. ### Why does the water sputter and spit? Air in the line, usually after a filter change or after the supply was shut off. Dispense in short bursts for a few minutes until the flow steadies. Sputtering that never clears suggests a partly frozen door line or low water pressure in the house. ### Can I run the dispenser without a filter to test it? Many models accept a bypass plug in place of the filter, and some run with the filter removed; the manual says which. If the flow returns with the bypass fitted, the filter was the restriction. Treat it as a test, and fit a filter again afterward if your water needs one. ### Is a dispenser worth repairing if the refrigerator cools fine? Usually, since most dispenser repairs fall in the low to moderate bands and involve a valve, a switch or a line rather than anything in the refrigeration.
