--- title: "Whirlpool refrigerator showing Flashing F" description: "What Flashing F means on Whirlpool refrigerators, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/whirlpool-flashing-f/" --- # Whirlpool refrigerator showing Flashing F A letter F blinking on the display is the control reporting that it has logged a problem. ## What Flashing F actually means. A letter F blinking on the display is the control reporting that it has logged a problem. Whirlpool publishes separate pages for the individual F codes (F3 E1, F8 E2 and others), and every one of them gives the same power reset and nothing more; it does not say what each code points to. So the F tells you something wants attention, not which part. Whirlpool refrigerator display · also shown as Flashing "F" What to do when Flashing F shows on the refrigerator ### Kind of code Service indication A light or a message asking for a visit. It says that something wants attention, not what, so the visit starts with a diagnosis. ### Usually leads to Diagnostic visit The visit that decides what the repair actually is, before any part is ordered. ### Shows up as Refrigerator Showing an Error Code A code narrows the search, but only the manufacturer's own table gives it meaning. ### Make Whirlpool The most widely installed freestanding refrigeration in American kitchens. ### Source Whirlpool Product Help (producthelp.whirlpool.com): Flashing "F" - Error Code - Refrigerator Whirlpool files this under its French door and side-by-side models; the individual F-code pages sit under the French door and bottom-freezer models. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Whirlpool's own guidance for Flashing F on its refrigerators. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Write down the full code shown with the F, including the E number, before doing anything else. 02 Switch the breaker off, or unplug the refrigerator, for one full minute, then restore power. 03 Make sure cooling is switched on after the restart, then watch the display for a minute to see whether the F returns. 04 If it comes back, book a visit and give the technician the exact code you wrote down. ### Still there? It usually turns into [diagnostic visit](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/services/diagnostic-visit/). Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do Do not look up a part from the F number on a forum and order it. Write down the full code shown with the F, including the E number, before doing anything else. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### What does the number after a flashing F mean on my Whirlpool? Whirlpool publishes pages for codes like F3 E1 but only gives a power reset, not what each points to. Write the full code down for the technician. ### How do I reset a flashing F on a Whirlpool? Cut power at the breaker or plug for one minute, restore it, and make sure cooling is on. Give the display a full minute; a returning F is the signal to schedule a technician. --- **[Read on the site: Whirlpool refrigerator showing Flashing F](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/whirlpool-flashing-f/)** **[Book a visit with RefrigeratorRepair.center](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/schedule/)**
