--- title: "True Residential refrigerator showing REF" description: "What REF means on True Residential refrigerators, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/true-ref/" --- # True Residential refrigerator showing REF True shows REF when the cabinet has not reached its set temperature in the time the control allows. ## What REF actually means. True shows REF when the cabinet has not reached its set temperature in the time the control allows. Its own explanation points to a door left open or very hot product loaded into the unit. The code stays on the display until you clear it with a power cycle. True Residential refrigerator display What to do when REF shows on the refrigerator ### Kind of code Service indication A light or a message asking for a visit. It says that something wants attention, not what, so the visit starts with a diagnosis. ### Usually leads to Diagnostic visit The visit that decides what the repair actually is, before any part is ordered. ### Shows up as Refrigerator Showing an Error Code A code narrows the search, but only the manufacturer's own table gives it meaning. ### Make True Residential Commercial-derived residential refrigeration: columns, undercounter units and glass-door cabinets. ### Source True Residential 15 inch and 24 inch Undercounter Install Guide and User's Manual, "B" & "C" revisions (true-residential.com PDF) True Residential 15 inch and 24 inch undercounter units ("B" and "C" revisions). ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from True Residential's own guidance for REF on its refrigerators. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Check that the door is fully closed and was not left open. 02 Think about whether a lot of warm product went in recently. 03 Turn the refrigerator off and back on to clear the code. 04 If REF comes back, book a visit. ### Still there? It usually turns into [diagnostic visit](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/services/diagnostic-visit/). Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do It is not a sensor code and does not by itself name a failed part. A single REF after a big load or an open door is what True describes. ## What you may notice with it. The refrigerator problem REF tends to arrive with. Check that the door is fully closed and was not left open. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Will REF on my True undercounter unit clear by itself? No, it stays on the display until you turn the unit off and back on. True shows it when the cabinet has not reached the set temperature in the allotted time. An open door or a lot of warm product loaded at once are the causes True names. ### Why does REF come back on my True refrigerator after a power cycle? A single REF after a big load is expected; a repeat without an obvious reason is not. REF does not name a failed part by itself. If it returns, book a visit. --- **[Read on the site: True Residential refrigerator showing REF](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/true-ref/)** **[Book a visit with RefrigeratorRepair.center](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/schedule/)**
