The fan that carries cold air to the ice maker is not working, usually because frost or ice has gathered around it. On most models the rest of the refrigerator keeps cooling; it is the ice that stops. LG refrigerator display · also shown as IF, E IF, F1 What to do when ER IF shows on the refrigerator ### Kind of code Fan circuit A fan the control board expected to be turning is not — a motor that has failed, or ice holding the blade still. ### Usually leads to Fan and airflow repair Two fans, two completely different failures — one stops the cold arriving, the other stops the heat leaving. ### Shows up as Fresh Food Section Warm, Freezer Cold The single most diagnostic pattern on a refrigerator, and almost never the compressor. ### Make LG French door refrigeration with linear compressors and heavily instrumented controls. ### Source LG US support: refrigerator error code list (archived January 2025) LG prints the prefix differently by model — Er, E or none — and also lists F1 for the same failure. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from LG's own guidance for ER IF on its refrigerators. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Empty the ice bin, unplug the unit and leave the doors open for at least eight hours. 02 Dry the inside, plug it back in and allow one to two days for ice production to recover. 03 Keep the vents clear and check that the doors close fully. If the code returns, book a visit. ### Still there? It usually turns into [fan and airflow repair](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/services/fan-and-airflow-repair/). Empty the ice bin, unplug the unit and leave the doors open for at least eight hours. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Will my LG keep cooling while ER IF is on the display? On most models the compartments stay cold and only ice production stops. The code is about the fan feeding the ice maker, so food is not usually at risk. ### How soon will ice come back after I defrost for ER IF on an LG? After at least eight hours unplugged with the bin empty, give it one to two days once it is running again. If ER IF shows up again in that time, book a visit. --- **[Read on the site: LG refrigerator showing ER IF | RefrigeratorRepair.center](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/lg-er-if/)** **[Book a visit with RefrigeratorRepair.center](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/schedule/)**
