The sensor the defrost cycle depends on has shorted or come disconnected. On models with two such sensors the letter in front tells you which: F dS is the freezer one and r dS the refrigerator one. LG lists nothing an owner can do about it. LG refrigerator display · also shown as d5, F dS, r dS What to do when dS shows on the refrigerator ### Kind of code Sensor circuit A temperature sensor reading outside its range, or the wiring to it. The reading is confirmed with a meter before any part is ordered. ### Usually leads to Controls and sensors A refrigerator cools to what it believes the temperature is, and a sensor reading wrong is obeyed perfectly. ### Shows up as Refrigerator Freezing Food Lettuce frozen solid and milk with ice in it, in a compartment that is not supposed to freeze. ### Make LG French door refrigeration with linear compressors and heavily instrumented controls. ### Source LG US support: refrigerator error code list (Wayback copy, Feb 2024) Shown as dS, F dS or r dS depending on the model; the S may look like a 5. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from LG's own guidance for dS on its refrigerators. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Write down the full code, including any F or r before it, since it tells the technician which sensor to test. 02 Look for frost building on the back panel inside the freezer and mention it if you see it. 03 Book a repair visit. ### Still there? It usually turns into [controls and sensors](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/services/controls-and-sensors/). Write down the full code, including any F or r before it, since it tells the technician which sensor to test. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### What does the F or r in front of dS mean on an LG? It tells you which defrost sensor lost its reading: F for the freezer one and r for the refrigerator one. Write it down in full so the technician tests the right sensor. ### Is LG dS the same problem as dH? No, dH says a defrost cycle overran, while dS says the control cannot read the defrost sensor at all. Frost building inside the freezer is worth mentioning when you book. --- **[Read on the site: LG refrigerator showing dS | RefrigeratorRepair.center](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/lg-ds/)** **[Book a visit with RefrigeratorRepair.center](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/schedule/)**
