--- title: "Kenmore refrigerator showing Er rS" description: "What Er rS means on Kenmore refrigerators, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/kenmore-er-rs/" --- # Kenmore refrigerator showing Er rS Er rS points at the sensor that tells the control how cold the fresh food side is. ## What Er rS actually means. Er rS points at the sensor that tells the control how cold the fresh food side is. Sears lists the sensor, its wiring and the connectors between them as the places to look. With that reading gone, the fresh food side can drift too warm or too cold. Kenmore refrigerator display What to do when Er rS shows on the refrigerator ### Kind of code Sensor circuit A temperature sensor reading outside its range, or the wiring to it. The reading is confirmed with a meter before any part is ordered. ### Usually leads to Controls and sensors A refrigerator cools to what it believes the temperature is, and a sensor reading wrong is obeyed perfectly. ### Shows up as Refrigerator Freezing Food Lettuce frozen solid and milk with ice in it, in a compartment that is not supposed to freeze. ### Make Kenmore A retail badge on appliances built by several different manufacturers. ### Source Sears PartsDirect: Kenmore 795 bottom-freezer error codes (Wayback copy, Jan 2021) Kenmore and Kenmore Elite models whose number starts 795 (built by LG); Er rS appears on the Sears 795 chart and in the 795.7756x service manual. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Kenmore's own guidance for Er rS on its refrigerators. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Look at the number on the label inside the fresh food compartment; this meaning of Er rS belongs to models starting 795. 02 Check the fresh food side with a thermometer twice a day while you wait, and move milk and meat elsewhere if it climbs past 40°F. 03 Book a visit so the rS sensor lead can be traced back to the main board. ### Still there? It usually turns into [controls and sensors](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/services/controls-and-sensors/). Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do Turning the fresh food setting colder will not fix Er rS. The control cannot act on a setting when it cannot read the compartment. ## What you may notice with it. The refrigerator problems Er rS tends to arrive with. Look at the number on the label inside the fresh food compartment; this meaning of Er rS belongs to models starting 795. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Is my food at risk while my Kenmore shows Er rS? It can be, because without the fresh food sensor the control may let that side run too warm or too cold. Checking with a thermometer twice a day tells you whether perishables need to move. ### Will changing the temperature setting clear Er rS on my Kenmore? No, the control cannot act on a new setting while it has no reading from the compartment. The sensor, its wiring and its connectors need to be checked. --- **[Read on the site: Kenmore refrigerator showing Er rS](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/kenmore-er-rs/)** **[Book a visit with RefrigeratorRepair.center](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/schedule/)**
