--- title: "Kenmore refrigerator showing Er IS" description: "What Er IS means on Kenmore refrigerators, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/kenmore-er-is/" --- # Kenmore refrigerator showing Er IS Er IS points at the temperature sensor inside the ice maker. ## What Er IS actually means. Er IS points at the temperature sensor inside the ice maker. Sears lists a short or a wiring problem, and adds that the sensor is not usually sold on its own, so the repair often means a whole ice maker assembly. The 795 service manual calls it an icing sensor error. Kenmore refrigerator display What to do when Er IS shows on the refrigerator ### Kind of code Sensor circuit A temperature sensor reading outside its range, or the wiring to it. The reading is confirmed with a meter before any part is ordered. ### Usually leads to Controls and sensors A refrigerator cools to what it believes the temperature is, and a sensor reading wrong is obeyed perfectly. ### Shows up as Ice Maker Not Making Ice When the freezer is cold, the question is whether water is arriving — not whether the appliance can freeze. ### Make Kenmore A retail badge on appliances built by several different manufacturers. ### Source Sears PartsDirect: Kenmore 795 bottom-freezer error codes (Wayback copy, Jan 2021) Kenmore and Kenmore Elite models whose number starts 795 (built by LG); Er IS is in both the Sears 795 chart and the 795.7756x service manual. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Kenmore's own guidance for Er IS on its refrigerators. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Check that the model label reads 795; Er IS has this meaning on that family only. 02 Empty stale cubes out of the bin so you can tell whether any fresh ice is still being made. 03 Book a visit and ask for the wiring to be confirmed before a whole ice maker is replaced. ### Still there? It usually turns into [controls and sensors](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/services/controls-and-sensors/). Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do Er IS does not mean the freezer is failing. The code is about the ice maker's own sensor, and the freezer can keep food frozen normally. ## What you may notice with it. The refrigerator problems Er IS tends to arrive with. Check that the model label reads 795; Er IS has this meaning on that family only. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Does Er IS on my Kenmore mean the freezer is failing? No, the code concerns the temperature sensor inside the ice maker. The freezer can go on keeping food frozen as usual. ### Why might Er IS on a Kenmore lead to a whole new ice maker? Sears notes the ice maker sensor is not usually sold by itself, so a bad sensor often means replacing the assembly. Ask for the wiring to be confirmed first so the assembly is not changed for a wiring problem. --- **[Read on the site: Kenmore refrigerator showing Er IS](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/kenmore-er-is/)** **[Book a visit with RefrigeratorRepair.center](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/schedule/)**
