--- title: "Frigidaire refrigerator showing OP" description: "What OP means on Frigidaire refrigerators, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/frigidaire-op/" --- # Frigidaire refrigerator showing OP OP means a compartment temperature sensor, a thermistor, reads as an open circuit. ## What OP actually means. OP means a compartment temperature sensor, a thermistor, reads as an open circuit. Where it appears tells you which one: OP in the fresh food display is the fresh food sensor, and OP in the freezer display is the freezer sensor. The control has no usable temperature reading from that compartment. Frigidaire refrigerator display What to do when OP shows on the refrigerator ### Kind of code Sensor circuit A temperature sensor reading outside its range, or the wiring to it. The reading is confirmed with a meter before any part is ordered. ### Usually leads to Controls and sensors A refrigerator cools to what it believes the temperature is, and a sensor reading wrong is obeyed perfectly. ### Shows up as Refrigerator Freezing Food Lettuce frozen solid and milk with ice in it, in a compartment that is not supposed to freeze. ### Make Frigidaire Freestanding refrigeration and one of the most common standalone freezer brands. ### Source Frigidaire service data sheet A06589001, bottom freezer with ice and water (Wayback copy of manuals.frigidaire.com, Oct 2020) From the service sheet for a Frigidaire bottom freezer with ice and water. In the technician's diagnostic mode, OP is also used for an open door; that is a test readout, not this code. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Frigidaire's own guidance for OP on its refrigerators. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Note which display the OP is in, fresh food or freezer. 02 Put a thermometer in that compartment to see how it is actually doing. 03 Book a visit; Frigidaire lists OP with the codes that call for service. ### Still there? It usually turns into [controls and sensors](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/services/controls-and-sensors/). Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do Do not start with the control board. Frigidaire's service sheet asks the technician to work out whether the part, the main board or the wiring is to blame, and to check the wiring first. ## What you may notice with it. Note which display the OP is in, fresh food or freezer. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Which compartment has the problem when OP shows on my Frigidaire? The display that shows OP tells you: fresh food or freezer. That sensor reads as an open circuit, so the control has no temperature for that side. ### Will my Frigidaire need a new board for OP? Not necessarily, since the service sheet asks the technician to check the wiring first and then decide between the sensor and the board. Meanwhile, put a thermometer in that compartment. --- **[Read on the site: Frigidaire refrigerator showing OP](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/error-codes/frigidaire-op/)** **[Book a visit with RefrigeratorRepair.center](https://refrigeratorrepair.center/schedule/)**
